Suddenly a Grad student!

Oh my word! Things have been completely insane in the world of DPT year 2 students this quarter. I finally feel like grad school has hit. And man has it hit hard! The classes are extreme, the homework crazy, tests daunting, and labs last forever!

My quarter started on a harried note because of the crazy weather the east decided to have at the last possible minute of my Christmas vacation. After realizing my flight from chicago to ontario was cancelled I hurriedly called Southwest and got the first flight back to Cali. That one happened to be on Wednesday after school had started meaning I got to miss the first 3 days of classes. Though usually one would be ecstatic, I was terrified! I'd heard horror stories about this quarter from my roommate last year and I was very nervous to be missing the first few crucial days! Needless to say I got back and managed to get in the swing of things, but boy does missing the beginning make for some stress in this girls life!

So now, tests have begun. Midterms are in full swing and suddenly we have a full week off of school to go to the CSM conference in Vegas. Obviously the 3 tests I have when I get back are not going to be my best. However, the fun will hopefully make for the most memories, as long as I don't fail out of the program because of lack of study time!

To reiterate my previous comment, things have really picked up on this side of the world and my blogging has been left by the wayside. Something I hope to fix within the next week....we'll see if the conference allows for time in the evenings or not :)

Year in Review

I had an absolutely amazing 2013! Here's just a taste of all the fun things my year encompassed!

Apparently February was dreary and dull because I have no pictures to chronicle my life from that month.

Thank you all who made this year so amazing! I can't wait to see what all 2014 brings!

A journey: From Finals to Home

I am extremely behind on this blogging thing. Between school and trying to have a social life, the blogging gets tossed aside for more exciting and people oriented things. So to catch up…

Finals were atrocious. Never have I been so apathetic towards grades in my life! I sincerely hope that something changes in the next three weeks to get me ready to hit the books again for my last 22 weeks of intense classroom time. To top off the horrible finals, I was very ready to head home Thursday afternoon; sadly my plane had other ideas. There was a leak in the landing gear, which delayed the plane about 4 hours. Of course by then I’d missed all my connections and had to be put on another flight for Friday instead.

Obviously I was disappointed, but thankfully I have amazing friends that played space team with me, I got to go out to dinner with Hannah, and then decorate (mostly eat) Christmas cookies at home. After a good nights sleep I got to do it all again; repack a few things, load up the car, drive to the airport, and pray I could actually take off this time!

And now I’m home and loving the relaxed downtime with family and friends! I couldn’t ask for a more peaceful first weekend back!

Tri Harder

This last weekend was one of the most stressful and exhausting of my entire PT school career. Not only was I in the middle of finals and needed to be studying, but I signed up to do an Olympic distance triathlon in Palm Springs. Who in their right mind thinks it’s a good idea to kill themselves right before finals is beyond me! Obviously I was delirious when I made the decision.

Let me paint you the picture, Saturday I spent the day freezing and cheering for 2 of my friends who did the half iron man distance. Yes, you would think this would make me excited for my own race the following day, but sadly you would be mistaken! Kelsey came out of the water completely frozen! We had to change her it was so bad! Then while waiting for them to lap on the bike, the wind picked up like crazy! No way would I want to be anywhere near a bike during such wind, yet Kelsey and Jordan were both stuck in it riding back to the transition area. Jordan had a flat during the bike portion and had to wait 2 hours on the trail for a new tire, which was ridiculous. And once Kelsey got back from the bike she was so cold and had swallowed so much lake water that she didn’t do the run. So after all this and having to stand in the cold for 5 hours I was dreading when it was going to be my turn.

Sunday dawned, well we dawned several hours before the sun did, around 4am and we got packed up to head down to the tri. Forty-five minutes later we were unloading the bikes and heading to get our transitions set up in the cold! Let’s suffice it to say, the swim was freezing but my time was decent. The bike, since I hadn’t ridden more than 5 miles in over 3 months, was excruciating and I never wanna ride again. And the run was terrible! My cuboid has been acting up and had even gotten out of place the week before and boy oh boy did it hurt! Again, I did it, but I hated every second of it! Yes I’m a finisher, yes I can say I did it, but I can also say that the word triathlon has exited my vocabulary for the foreseeable future!

At least I had some amazing friends to suffer with me and keep cheering me on even though I just wanted to go home!
